Game & esports industry’s blood donation campaign starts
The purpose of the LastOnline blood donation campaign is to bring players together to save lives and help patients by donating blood.
The campaign was born from the cooperation of the e-sports organization RoundsGG Oy and Veripalvelu. It has been joined by significant Finnish players in the gaming industry and e-sports, such as the Finnish Electronic Sports Association, Game Makers of Finland, Assembly Organizing, and e-sports competition game organizations, such as HAVU Gaming.
With the help of the campaign, we want to increase awareness of the importance of donating blood, as well as make donating blood a common practice among players. The goal of the campaign is to activate 1337 donors, which will help up to 4011 patients. The number 1337 is familiar to players and it comes from the word LEET, which means ELITE, i.e. the elite. During the campaign, the game community's blood donation activity is monitored using the health bar familiar from many games.
The campaign, which lasts until the end of the year, can be seen in addition to social media as a summer tour focused on gaming, in which well-known top players and influencers participate. The tour starts in Tampere at Koskikeskus on June 7, 2024 and culminates in the Assembly Summer event in Helsinki on August 1-3, 2024
"Players are basically very community oriented, but especially young men don't know much about the Blood Service and its meaning. We want to increase information about the importance of donating blood," says Jussi Kallioniemi, CEO of the RoundsGG organization behind the campaign idea.
"It's great that e-sports players join the life-saving talks! There is a constant need for new blood donors in Finland, so both Veripalvelu and the patients thank you for the great campaign idea," says Hille Nylander, Veripalvelu's marketing expert.
Already in the preparation phase, the following have joined the LastOnline campaign:
Veripalvelu, RoundsGG, Game Makers of Finland, Finnish Electronic Sports Association, Assembly Organizing, HAVU Gaming, Finesports, Bar & Cafe Lategame, Kanaliiga, Roots Gaming, FinnHouse, KUUSAMO.gg, Incoach, TOOMUCHVIDEOGAMES, HEIMO Esports, Nirmo, Raketiliiga, EXEN Esports, LATU Esports, Finnish Esports League, JAMK Gamepit, HubiGG
