Membership fees

Membership fee for 2026 is 38 € per month.

This fee includes Game Makers of Finland, the Association of IT Sector Employees (Tietoala), Union of the Professional Engineers in Finland (Insinööriliitto ) and the unemployment insurance fund (KOKO) membership fee.

You can also order an e-invoice for your membership fee in online banking. The reference number of the membership fee invoice is used as the order identifier. More information about membership fee methods can be found on the Union of the Professional Engineers in Finland  website.

If you transfer to the Union of the Professional Engineers in Finland from another union, please ensure that the membership fee is paid for each month either to your previous union or to the Union of the Professional Engineers in Finland.

By paying the membership fee, you ensure that you are entitled to all the benefits, services and insurances that are provided by the union.

Special groups and discounted membership fee

The Union of the Professional Engineers in Finland grants a membership fee discount upon separate application. The membership fee discount must be applied for from the Union of the Professional Engineers in Finland. The application and instructions can be found on the Union of the Professional Engineers in Finland membership page.

The membership fee discount is per calendar month. The discount can be granted for full calendar months in which you do not have, for example, a salary income. The application must be accompanied by a document verifying the start/validity of the discount basis.

Reasons for a discount:

  • unemployment/layoff

  • conscript/civilian service

  • long-term illness

  • family leave

  • retirement

  • work-alternating leave

  • other similar reason

Students

A member of Game Makers of Finland is entitled to a student membership fee when all of the following conditions are met:

  • If the member has a previous degree and is now a full-time student, but has never been a member of IOL or the Union of the Professional Engineers in Finland

    • an exception is a person who has studied engineering, but has finished their engineering studies and switched to studying IT/games

  • The member is not eligible for IOL membership due to their studies.

  • A member is a full-time student studying an IT or games degree at a secondary school or university.

The amount of the student membership fee, operating principle and operating instructions will from now on be the same in all applicable respects as the student members Union of Professional Engineers in Finland currently has. If the Union of Professional Engineers in Finland changes any of the above sections in whole or in part, the Game Makers of Finland student membership fee will also change in all applicable respects in the same way, unless Game Makers of Finland decides otherwise separately.

A student member of Game Makers of Finland can work as a part-time entrepreneur as long as the conditions for full-time studies are met.

A student member can join the unemployment fund if they complete a paid internship or have summer jobs during their studies.

Not entitled to a student membership fee:

  • if the person has previously been a member of IOL, Game Makers of Finland or a member organization of the Union of the Professional Engineers in Finland

The student membership fee is €30, covering five (5) years of membership fees, after which the membership fee is €30/year until graduation.

The full-time status of studies is determined in accordance with the current Kela guidelines.

Pensioners

The membership fee for pensioners is €120.00/year.

Are you already a member of the Union of the Professional Engineers in Finland?

You can join Game Makers of Finland membership with your membership in the Union of the Professional Engineers in Finland.

In practice, if you are already a member of the Union of the Professional Engineers in Finland, i.e. you belong to any member organization operating under the Union of the Professional Engineers in Finland, you can join Game Makers of Finland, for an annual fee of €36. At the same time, your membership will remain where you are and you will pay the membership fee of that organization completely normally.

Nothing changes, except that you will receive Game Makers of Finland membership and the right to participate in events and training. And you will be part of the world's first game industry labour union.
